Petanque Social at Crown Melbourne

Play a game of boules, laze on a day bed or eat food by Nobu, 400 Gradi and other Crown eateries along the Yarra.

First came Arbory Afloat, now Petanque Social is the Yarra River’s latest summery spot for outdoor drinks and snacks.

The terracotta-hued bar, which draws inspiration from European hotspots such Tuscany, is on the other side of the river from Arbory, as part of Crown Melbourne’s Riverwalk restaurant precinct. The menu includes snacky dishes from other Crown eateries, including the Wagyu beef taco from Nobu and a tight list of pizzas from 400 Gradi, plus freshly shucked oysters, grilled skewers and bright salads.

You’ll also be able to play a game of petanque, or boules, on the designated court and laze on cushioned day beds. Of course there’s a full-service bar serving vino, beers, spritzes and summer cocktails.

This year, Petanque Social is focused on sustainability. Reclaimed materials and eco-friendly paints have been used to build the pop-up, and there’s now rainwater collection, an on-site garnish garden and worm farm composting. Guests can also pedal energy bikes to charge up their phones and get some quick exercise in.

Petanque Social opens on November 5 and will run until May 2022.
